Naughty Lists

Merry Christmas to everyone we know and love. Please consider this our eco-friendly Christmas card. It won't clutter up your counter, it doesn't have to be recycled and it contains far more action than we could hope to stuff into an envelope.

I did intend to write cards this year. I bought them early and even started to write them early. But somewhere between Drew's hockey, Kai and Mara's dance performances, school projects and last minute 'emergencies' (Mum! We were supposed to sell 4 booklets of raffle tickets and the money is due today! / I need a secret Santa gift...by lunchtime! / I signed you up for driving for the field trip and it's today at 9am) I only managed to send out three. Three. December has fallen out from under me and there is no making up for lost time now. So, if your last name doesn't start with an A and is therefore not on the first page of our address book, please re-read the first paragraph. We truly hope this Christmas and New Year is the best yet for everyone. With only 2 more sleeps until Santa arrives our kids are overflowing with excitement.

In October we celebrated Kai's birthday with a Diva Sleepover. Seven seven-year-olds...and Mara. There were 'martinis', manicures and pedicures, wigs, dress-up karaoke and candy. It all started so well and then cake smashing started. It continued in fits of hysterics until every surface in the house was covered in a chocolate mint sludge. At least they had fun.

After a short recovery and industrial clean of the house we took a trip with friends to the corn maze and pumpkin patch. The kids picked out their costumes and we were ready for Halloween.

In mid-November, (yes November - I love the weather here) Drew competed in the zone cross country meet, coming in the top 20. I have no idea how he did it as just watching that pack of 8-year-olds sprint 2.5 kms that fast made me want to puke.

Just last week Mara & Kai had their Christmas performances with Brigadoon Dance Academy. I could hardly contain myself lacing up both my girl's highland shoes and struggling to fit their hair in buns (Mara's didn't make it). They just beamed on the stage and made us so proud. Video to come.

Holding Mara in the wings while watching the BC Champion dance on stage has secured a spot on my list of top moments of motherhood. Her mouth gaped and she was mesmerized. Finally at the end she whispered, "I am going to be that girl."
